I don't know that. I think Northam is thinking about himself, and

His own career. His own muddled response shows that he has a goal, and it isn't to elevate Justin Fairfax. I think he'd be refusing to step down if Fairfax were clean as a whistle because he doesn't want a 1984 yearbook photo to end his career.

I think there are dems who are more circumspect about wanting him to step down because Fairfax may not be there to take over, but it's actually surprising to me how many dems in Va and nationally still want Northam to go.

They can't shoot him if he refuses to step down. Here's the thing - blackface is never ok for anyone - only a crazy partisan view of the national shitstorm over Va's issues can make a repub think dems think blackface is sometimes ok for dems. It's never ok. Can it be forgivable when it happened over 30 years ago and has not been part of a lifelong pattern?

Personally I think it probably should be in some cases.
